Terroir

The estate Schloss Lieser cultivates a total area of 9,5 hectares ( 24 acre), the majority of is located at the top sites of Lieser Niederberg Helden . Additional top sites are the Brauneberger Juffer Sonnenuhr and Brauneberger Juffer. Thomas Haag only cultivates Riesling grapes, the noblest most interesting and most multifaceted wine of the world.

The vineyards are all facing south or south- west, have a typical slate soil and a slope of up to 80%. The stony, soft slate soil saves the heat of the sun and the Mosel river serves as a reflector that further intensifies the sun rays. This combination of the mild micro climate and the cool general climate serves as the basis for the production of extremely fine, vital, and fruity Riesling wines.

A long growing season, that extents from the shoot at the beginning of May to the harvest at the end of October, intensifies the fruit and makes the wine extreme fruity and highly aromatic enriched by mineral nuances of the stony soil always light in the alcoholic scale.
