Weingut Schloss Lieser

Schloss Lieser Estate was bought in run-down conditions by Thomas Haag and his wife Ute in the 1990s. Meanwhile the winery includes 26ha in 9 different Grand Cru vineyards – the best sites, the Mosel valley has to offer. On the one hand, the high quality is based on exceptional steep slopes that can be characterized primarily by their slate soil and their hundred-year old vines. On the other hand the late hand picking in several selections contributes to the yearly production of high-quality Rieslings with great aging potential.

All of the Rieslings are fermenting spontaneously with natural yeast and under low temperature in our 100- year old vaulted cellar. Because of this, Schloss Lieser wines can unfold their unique terroir character which brings up their own identity and distinctive character. They especially reveal a mineral complexity combined with an elegant fruitiness and low alcohol content.

After many years of hard work in the vineyards, the cellar and the buildings they have been honoured with the award best german “Wine Maker of the year” by Falstaff in 2021 and Gault Millau in 2015. Currently all german wine guides classify the estate as a “Worldclass Winery” with the highest possible ranking of 5 ★ ★ ★ ★ ★.

The next generation also shares the passion and love for wine and is helping energetically in the winery. After the studies of International Wine Business and WSET Diploma as well as several internships abroad, the daughter Lara is now focusing on Marketing, Sales and Export of the winery. Niklas, the son, has studied viticulture and oenology and is helping Thomas in the cellar and vineyards.
